Quejas Comunes:

We purchased a 2bd/2ba unit 2 years ago (march 2010) at Los Cabos. We paid $10K down and then $18K ($28K total) for 3 weeks a year. We also got 2 years of free memberships to SFX, RCI, HSI and my favorite Registry Collection. We probably over paid, but we don't have "buyers remorse" like a lot of these posters do. We knew what we were getting into!  Nothing that I'm reading here happened to us (except for the 5 hour presentation...but it's b/c we asked many questions and enjoyed talking with our sales rep, Lisa).  We knew what we signed up for and just enjoyed the day and free meals and drinks and all the other perks for going on the tour (we even had our 4yr old daughter and she played on the beach while talked).  They never offered to rent our extra weeks as an "investment" or buy our other timeshare (which we have). We even initialed a document saying "they won't/can't sell our weeks" and gave us a document on how to rent it out ourselves if we want to make $ on our unused weeks. We just donated a week to my daughter's fundraiser at school and we got 2 for 1! (TWO, 2 bedroom condos for one maint fee..awesome! They will probably raise $2K for that donation!) My husband and I also got the same 2 for 1 deal for Cabo in Sept! plus an $800 resort credit! (see why I'm happy!?) Our friends and family love us too, lol
I will point out that you have to be careful and "renew" after 10 years (every 10 yrs for up to 100 years) or  you will lose the rights to your contract. But you can pass this down to your children and grandchildren. I'm betting they won't "remind" us when our 10 years anniversary is. I guess the good side to that is that if after 10-20 years, we want to stop paying the maintenance fees (currently $950/week/yr) then we'll just "let it go back" and won't be on the hook. We travel A LOT and if you add up the savings, the $28K was a good choice for us. We also get great'trading power" with this unit and have used our unit to stay at many great places for a fraction of the price. (Like Montecristo for $1495 for the week...which usually rents for $700/night!)
My only complaint is that it has been very difficult  to get into the Los Cabos GM b/c you have to book at least 6 months out due to lack of available rooms (we plan our trips within 2 months). However, we easily got into Nuevo Vallarta and will be going there next week (I'll review on TripAdvisor upon return).
In short, We've had a great experience with GM timeshares and don't have buyer's remorse and don't feel scammed. Like another poster said "If you can't afford it or the amount is going to stress you out....don't do it!"  And if you have trouble saying "no" (many times) then don't go on the tour.  Read everything, ask lots of questions, do some research and sure...buy on the secondary market if you want to save more $$
    cheers!

I have become involved with Grand Mayan and want out. I have been in negotiations with them but not to my satisfaction. Watch out for Grand Mayan!!

Was in Mexico at the Grand Mayan resort and made the mistake of signing a contract and not reviewing it within the 5 day cancellation period. Upon further review there presentation was misleading and turned out to be fee heavy. I have contacted the resort and we are in negotiations to reduce the fee's but do not seem interested in coming up with asettlement to cancel it. I just want out.
