Quejas Comunes:

Nobody told us we couldn't exchange it until a year later after paying our first maintenance fee (which by the way keeps going up and up every year!).

We just purchased with reef playacar resort. We asked the salesperson why he wanted to pay double for our Mayan timeshare, and he responded that it was a mutual investment. The reef was going to benefit by only paying a very low % when renting to golfers instead of paying the 30% tax. We were going to make money by renting out two weeks for $2000 each minus $49 dlls. We signed on 09/27/13. Please give us advise on how to cancel.

I was in Playa del Carmen and was conned into giving the Mayan Palace time share a cr. card payment of $1825. They said they would sell my timeshare in Floria and I would have 3 weeks of timeshare and they would use 2 wks. and those 2 wks. would pay for my one week. I have not received anything. I am 72 years old and just finished my third cancer treatment and I have what has been diagnosed as "chemo brain" which made me mentally impaired.

The Reef's vacation club sales staff very experienced cons. THe concierge, Jaime, acted like our best friend. We felt obligated to him to hear the sales pitch. Roberto was so low key and charming that we didnt realize we were being scammed. Even after Aaron put his hard sell on us we felt like it all made perfect sense based on the information they gave us. It wasnt until our drive home from the airport that I had internet access and started researching it and realized...if it sounds too good to be true it probably is! We thought we only would have to pay $999 for this but after reading the paperwork in detail we committed to paying $12,000. Fortunately we were still within the 5 days (even though we signed a form stating the 5 days were waived...that is illegal) and we canceled by email and certified mail. the resort and the rest of the staff were really great but the timeshare scam was very professional and easy to fall for!!!

We go to Mexico almost every year, we go a little further south and stay in Playa del Carmen, actually Playacar just south of PDC, which you might find slightly more appealing if you are not into the party scene. We changed from Cancun to PDC years ago when we got a little older. PDC has a variety of all inclusives and smaller boutique resorts depending on what you are looking for.
Lots of people will call out to you when walking down major streets, we just ignore them. Arrange for your transfer to your hotel before you get there (we use Best Day but there's a range of legitimate operators), walk through the airport without stopping to talk to anyone who says "need a ride" or "what are you looking for". The transfer companies have to stand outside the airport and they will be holding up a sign with the name of your company
If someone offers you an excursion for free, it's a time share presentation. If the price sounds too good to be true, probably a time share. You can book excursions at your hotel through the rep, you can book them online, I've even booked them at a travel agency in PDC. But just not with the guys who are calling out to you from store fronts.
Don't let this put you off traveling to Cancun or PDC, as long as you are aware of it and know what to avoid, the time share people are harmless. And they crack me up when they yell out "hey honeymooners" to those of us who've been married for a pretty long time.

Its a total scam. We got ours in October of 2012. We were promised that we would see a return on investment as soon as 90 days. It's been almost 12 months and nothing has happened. We have recently received a call from another company saying they have a buyer wanting to purchase the timeshare from us...they are all lined up. For 32k. That's right, getting triple for the investment we got scammed out of. Well...they are a scam too. DONT fall for this. PLEASE...save your money and your time. We are out 12k and have nothing to show for it. When I heard I only had to wire 3,500 to get my sale accomplished and receive 32k...I smelled something fishy. I called a consumer advocacy group for Time Shares and guess what...we almost fell again for the oldest trick in the book. I wish I could sue them. Seriously feel suckered.

we purchased a time share in 2008, we have returned in 2009 and have not since used it, we are now trying to book for next year and have no idea how to get hold of the people, it would be great if they responded to our e mails.
